Trivia Park FAQ
Frequently-asked questions — and answersWe usually deal in facts, not FAQs, but this page is the exception that proves the rule. If you have a question not answered here, don’t go away unfulfilled — email it in, and we’ll make sure you get your answer. What’s so special about TriviaPark.com? Nobody really asks this, of course, but we’ll answer it anyway. In brief, Trivia Park would like to be known as the home of the best trivia quizzes on the net. Some sites offer many more trivia questions than we do, and that’s OK — for us it’s about providing a top-quality trivia experience in terms both of user enjoyment and educational value. Quantity doesn’t really enter into our calculations at all. Our underlying goal is to make our trivia non-trivial. We do this by avoiding as far as possible the more sterile types of factoid that many trivia quizzes depend on. Instead we favor a treatment you’ll probably find richer, fuller and rounder than what you find elsewhere. We treat each quiz as essentially a magazine article in quiz format. In fact, we’d like you to think of TriviaPark.com as a sort of magazine that just happens to construct its articles from trivia questions instead of ordinary text. What is the connection between TriviaPark.com and FamilyGames.com? Both web-sites are the creation of AHA! Software Inc., a software company created in 1985 by Canadian programmers Nick Sullivan and Chris Zamara (who nowadays does real software development for Pinnacle Systems Inc. in Silicon Valley). FamilyGames.com came into being in 1995 to provide a home on the web for AHA! Software’s family adventure game Santa’s Secret Valley, affectionately known as SSV, which has endured in popularity through several revisions since that time. FamilyGames.com is now home to twenty or so non-violent, family-friendly shareware and freeware games, all designed and programmed by Nick either alone or in collaboration with others. Throughout its first decade, FamilyGames.com hosted a growing number of popular trivia quizzes, also written by Nick. In 2005, the quizzes were split off into their own site, TriviaPark.com, which continues to expand and develop. Both sites are still operated by Nick and his wife Susan M. Scott from their headquarters in Victoria, British Columbia. I would like to use some of your trivia questions on my own web-site. Is that OK? Only by special arrangement with us. All the text on this site (except advertisements) is the copyrighted property of AHA! Software Inc., and may not be re-used without permission. If you would like to host one of our quizzes as an attraction on your site, please check out our free Partnership Program, which makes it not just legal but easy to do so. I’ve seen some of your quiz questions on other sites. Did you borrow them? Most definitely not! The text of all the quizzes on our site originated with us. Except under the terms of our Partnership Program (see previous question), any use of our quiz text on another web-site is both unethical and illegal. If you know of any instances of such use, we would appreciate it if you would let us know so that we can approach the webmaster concerned directly. I found an error in one of your questions. What should I do? Please tell us about it, even if it’s just a typo. We accept criticism not just gracefully but with gratitude. Researching, fact-checking and proofreading our questions occupies a great deal of our time — which is why we get a little hot under the collar when they show up elsewhere on the web without permission — but errors can always slip by. If we know about them, we will fix them. I have a good idea for a quiz. Do you want to hear about it? Certainly. We appreciate your suggestions for quiz ideas, or for anything else that touches on our site. Obviously we cannot guarantee to use every idea, but we will definitely give it serious consideration. Contact us via email. I have expertise I would like to share. Can I contribute a quiz to TriviaPark.com? We would love to see what you come up with. Feel free to contact us at any stage in the development of your quiz. If we feel the content is appropriate for our site, we’ll work with you to develop the quiz into a form suitable for publication, and display it with full credit and acknowledgement to you. I would like you to create a custom quiz for my web-site, publication or broadcast. Do you provide such a service? We are happy to discuss terms with you for creating custom quizzes. Please contact us to let us know your needs and we will prepare a quote. Understand that we are a very small company and may not be able to accept a commission if the lead time is insufficient. I would like to advertise on your site. Whom should I contact? We welcome family-friendly advertisers, and offer very competitive CPM rates on both site-wide and quiz-specific campaigns. Please email us for a current rate-sheet. I work for a print publication, and would like to publish one of your quizzes. Is that a possibility? We consider each publication request on its own merits. Unless some other publication is already planning to use one of our quizzes in your market, there will ordinarily be no problem. Our fee for one-time publication rights varies according to your circulation. Also, we can usually offer a significant reduction in fee for non-profit publications. Please contact us with details of your requirements. Can I use some of your quiz questions on my radio or television show? Please see the answer to the previous question: the same considerations apply. We are willing to consider licensing our material for use in broadcasts both Internet-based and otherwise. |
