4. Mrs. Tristan

Isolde was the love of Tristan’s life, but whom did he marry?

A) Blanchefleur
B) Brangwaine
C) Elizabeth
D) Isolde ü

The woman Tristan loved was Isolde of Ireland, the queen of Cornwall’s King Mark. The woman he married, however, was the equally beautiful and virtuous Isolde of Brittany, who was offered to Tristan by her father and brother when they mistakenly assumed that their Isolde was the one he kept singing about. Of our other answers, Elizabeth (called “Blanchefleur” in some stories) was King Lot’s sister, Tristan’s mother, who lost her life giving birth to him. Brangwaine was Isolde of Ireland’s maidservant.
