A) Bite or gnaw B) Corrupt or impair ü C) Laze or sprawl D) Revive or reawaken
Vitiate comes from the Latin vitium, a fault, and so literally means to “make faulty”. Generally, vitiation is carried out by a corrupting influence: one’s health may be vitiated by poor nutrition, or one’s reputation vitiated by impulsive behavior. A legal contract may be vitiated by imprecise wording, or the purity of a mountain stream vitiated by pollution from a mine.
