Mozart’s magnificent three final symphonies were written in the space of six weeks in 1788. What is the nickname of his final symphony?
A) Jupiter ü B) Neptune C) Pluto D) The Planets
The three symphonies, officially numbered 39 to 41, produced in that brief outpouring were Mozart at the very top of his form. Although he presumably intended to introduce them in Vienna shortly after composing them, it never came to pass, and they were unfortunately not performed during his lifetime. As often happened, it was a third party — probably Johann Peter Salomon, a prominent impresario — who gave the symphony its nickname, and not the composer himself.
