Blackbeard (Edward Teach) was a giant of a man with a mane of black hair and — his trademark — a luxuriant black beard. What did Blackbeard do as a special ploy to make himself more fearsome in battle?
A) Burnt wicks in his beard that surrounded him with smoke ü B) Roared a pirate battle song he had composed himself C) Spat tobacco juice into his opponents face and eyes D) Used two cutlasses simultaneously, one in each hand
In his brief career as a pirate captain, lasting less than four years, Edward Teach was extremely active and successful, taking at least forty ships. His sphere of operations included both the Caribbean and the North American east coast, and at length he settled down in North Carolina with a pardon from its governor. The governor of Virginia, however, knew that Teach had continued his pirate activities in violation of amnesty terms, and sent a naval detachment to pursue him. Things came to a head in a desperate battle at Ocracoke Inlet in North Carolina, during which Teach was killed by numerous gunshot and cutlass wounds.
