Which of the following Shakespeare plays was written in collaboration with another playwright?
A) The Comedy of Errors B) The Two Noble Kinsmen ü C) Troilus and Cressida D) Two Gentlemen of Verona
Shakespeare’s writing partner in this, one of his last plays, was John Fletcher (1579-1625), a prolific author who often worked with a collaborator. His most popular works were comedies, most of them written with Francis Beaumont (who died, like Shakespeare himself, in 1616). The Two Noble Kinsmen is largely based on “The Knight’s Tale” in Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. First published in 1634, when both its authors had been dead for some time, the attribution of the play to Shakespeare as co-author has been met with skepticism on the part of some critics, but it is now generally accepted as correct on stylistic grounds. It appears that each author contributed about half the text.
