According to E. Cobham Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, Doomstead was the horse of the Norns (Fates); Skinfaxi (“shining mane”) was the steed that pulled the car of day; and Sleipnir was Odin’s eight-legged gray horse, which represented the wind that blows from eight directions over land and sea.
