Winter Olympics quiz

Your current score...

8. Giant-killer

The USSR entered the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1956, and immediately made its presence felt by winning more medals than any other nation. They repeated this feat in 1960 and 1964, but not in 1968, when the run was broken by which nation?

A) Canada
B) France
C) Norway ü
D) United States

Norway topped the standings with a good overall performance, but the star of the games was the popular French skier Jean-Claude Killy, who won all three Alpine events. Russia recovered from their runner-up finish to take first place in each of the next three Winter Games, to be dethroned again by East Germany in 1984.
