Winter Olympics quiz

9. The boss

The 1994 Winter Olympics were the first held between Summer Olympics rather than in the same year. They were also notable for the performance of Norwegian speed skater Johan Olav Koss. What did Koss do?

A) Became the father of twins during the 10,000-meter race.
B) Broke the world record in three different events ü
C) Won all five available gold medals
D) Won his event after doctors said he wouldn’t skate again

Koss amply lived up to his nickname of “The Boss” not just by winning his events but by the lop-sidedness of his victories and by the stunning 13-second improvement over his own previous world record for the 10,000-meter race. Koss retired shortly after the 1994 Games, but has gained prominence since then for his active involvement in humanitarian causes, particularly in Africa.
